The Ohio State Highway Patrol seized 1 pound of methamphetamine and 30 grams of cocaine worth about $40,000 during a recent traffic stop in Summit County.

Richard W. Hayes, 38, of Akron, was charged with first-degree felony possession of methamphetamine and cocaine and trafficking in drugs; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a second-degree misdemeanor.

The patrol said troopers stopped a 2009 Toyota Tacoma with a West Virginia registration for an improper lane change violation on South Arlington Street in Akron at 10:36 p.m. Jan. 3.

The vehicle was searched after authorities said they observed drug paraphernalia in plain view.

Hayes was being held at the Summit County Jail.

If convicted, he could face up to 33 years in prison and up to a $60,000 fine.
