TALLMADGE — While there is a buzz on social media concerning a local fast food landmark being put up for sale, the business is not permanently closed.

A&W Root Beer, located at 35 West Ave., is listed on LoopNet.com, the city of Tallmadge shared the link on its website and people have been sharing the link and commenting about it on Facebook. One person said Tallmadge would not be the same without A&W.

A man who identified himself as the restaurant’s owner said he’s been trying to sell the commercial property just off the Tallmadge Circle for a year and a half. And while the drive-in restaurant is closed for the season, he said he will reopen in the spring if no one buys the business before then.

The owner, who asked not to be identified, further noted that when the restaurant is sold, he will stay on as an employee to ensure a smooth transition. He said the restaurant typically employs 30 full- and part-time workers each season. LoopNet says the restaurant is open from late February through Labor Day and serves in a typical day more than 300 customers.

According to LoopNet, the business was built in 1960, and the current owner bought it from the previous owner in 2002. Real estate is included in the sale and consists of four parcels, one with a building and three for parking, in-car dining and a children’s play area. The seller, the website states, is a limited liability company owned by two members who are a husband and wife.

The size of property is 0.80 of an acre with a gross leasable area of 1,602 square feet, according to LoopNet.
