CUYAHOGA FALLS — A former Cuyahoga Falls High School guidance counselor entered a guilty plea to a third-degree felony sexual battery charge Monday in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas during her final pretrial hearing.

A Summit County grand jury indicted Rebecca Sparrow in April on a third-degree felony charge of sexual battery in connection with an allegation that she engaged in “sexual conduct” with a Cuyahoga Falls High School student in 2016. The school district placed her on administrative leave in January and she resigned in April. The case was before Summit County Common Pleas Judge Amy Corrigall Jones.

Her attorney, Michael T. Callahan, said Sparrow could receive one to five years in prison but is eligible for community control. Under statute, she will have to register as a sex offender for life. Callahan added that because this is a pending case, he did not wish to comment further.

Sparrow had a trial scheduled for Dec. 11. She remains free on a personal recognizance bond pending a Jan. 28 sentencing hearing.
