The Hudson Green will be transformed into a German Christmas market in December, as the city celebrates the holidays and its sister city relationship with Landsberg, Germany.

Christkindlmarkt will be Friday, Dec. 14, from 4 to 9 p.m. and Dec. 15 and 16 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The winter street market, a tradition throughout Germany, will feature almost two dozen Northeast Ohio vendors selling handmade toys and gifts and food and beverages.

Entertainment will include the Donauschwaben Brass Band, Chardon Polka Band, Youth Dance Team from the German Family Society of Akron, Hudson Community Band, Hudson Community Choir Carolers and Krampus of Cleveland.

There will also be mulled-apple cider sold in a limited number of collectable, special edition Hudson Christkindl mugs. Kepner’s will offer German beers in a special beer garden set up on its patio.

Visitors are expected to experience gemütlichkeit (pronounced g?'mo?otlik?kit). While there is no direct English translation, gemütlichkeit is the type of joy that can only be experienced when surrounded by the friendliness and joy of others. Ensuring gemütlichkeit in our city is the main goal of the Hudson Christkindlmarkt.

The Hudson-Landsberg committee, which is organizing Christkindlmarkt, is a non-profit organization.

The committee is seeking sponsors and donors to help defray the cost of the event.

Interested individuals, businesses and organizations can send checks to Hudson Landsberg Sister City, including "Christkindlmarkt" in the memo line and mail to P.O. Box 1382 Hudson, Ohio, 44236. They can also contact co-chair Jeff Moore, at or call 234-738-1799.
