A Twinsburg High School teacher facing charges of sexual battery allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with a victim at school and sent obscene photos via Snapchat to a juvenile last year.
Laura Bucy, of Akron, is facing two felony sex charges and has been placed on administrative leave following an investigation by Twinsburg Police.
She is accused of sexual battery and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, according to Stow Municipal Court records. The crimes allegedly took place between between Sept. 22, 2017, and Oct. 27, 2017, according to a court record.
Twinsburg Superintendent Kathryn Powers sent a letter Thursday to parents stating the police informed her that the investigation began the prior evening and involves “allegations of a serious nature related to misconduct that allegedly took place on school property.”
Powers did not name Bucy or indicate what job she holds in the district.
A LinkedIn profile for a Laura Bucy states she is a family and consumer sciences teacher for Twinsburg, beginning that job in August 2017. The profile also states that since 2013 she also worked for Strongsville, Akron and Ravenna schools.
Despite requests by the Record-Courier, Twinsburg police have not provided a copy of the incident report cited in the court charges.
In Powers’ letter, she said high school administration and staff are available to provide emotional support to students and members of the school community.
“The district is cooperating with local law enforcement authorities in their investigation, and simultaneously conducting its own investigation,” Powers stated. “The Twinsburg City School district takes the safety and well-being of our students seriously and we understand the troubling nature of the charges against the employee.”
The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
