TALLMADGE — Melody L. Briand has been approved as the city’s next assistant law director.

Briand succeeds John Scavelli Jr., who is leaving to become Wooster’s law director this week. Scavelli has been Tallmadge’s assistant law director since January 2012. "I wish him well, but we definitely will miss him here," Law Director Megan E. Raber stated.

"The city of Wooster has offered me a great opportunity to advance my career …," Scavelli told the Tallmadge Express, adding, "I consider it an honor and a privilege to have been able to serve the people of the Tallmadge. Tallmadge is a wonderful community. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working for the city and especially for Director of Law, Megan Raber."

Briand has been a lawyer for approximately nine years. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law in 2009. She is presently employed by Wayne County as a prosecutor. Her experience also includes serving with the Stark County Public Defender’s Office and as a staff attorney at ValMark Securities, Inc.

"I’m very excited to be here," Briand told members of City Council.

Council member Becky Allman (Ward 2) was absent for the vote.
