A beautiful spring day, a large crowd and a great group of outstanding registered Holsteins and registered Guernseys came together for the Springhill Encore Sale Saturday, April 14. at Springhill Farm, home of Chris, Tom, Karen and Kendra Lang of Big Prairie.

In the Holstein, sale three lots achieved the highest selling price of $2,600.

— Lot 10, Springhill-OH DM Carra-TW, a summer yearling, sold to Elaina, Ava and Audrey Lahmers and Kennley, Grace and Myra Siegrist, Marysville. Sired by Doorman, her dam is classified Very Good 86 and by Gold Chip with 10 generations of Very Good and Excellent dams in the pedigree, including Langacres Elevation Hope.

— Lot 42, Springhill-OH Sid Julia-ET, a 3-year-old, sold to Logan and Wyatt Schlauch, Big Prairie. Scored Very Good 85 and due to Gold Chip, her dam is an Excellent 93 Goldwyn with a long list of records up to 33,000 and from nine generations of Very Good and Excellent dams, and also goes back to the well-known Langacres Elevation Hope EX 91 2E.

— Lot 102, Springhill-OH Montross Alee, a Very Good 85 3-year-old with over 30,000 pounds of milk as a 2-year-old, she was milking and rebred to Tatoo. Her grandam is Excellent 91 2E with sons in A.I. She sold to Ross Russell, Russell Springs, Kentucky.

A total of 116 Holstein live lots sold for an average of $1,265. Cows averaged $1,371, bred heifers averaged $1,323, yearlings averaged $920 and calves averaged $683. Holsteins sold to Wisconsin, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Texas and Ohio.

The top selling Guernsey at $5,350 was Lot 204, Springhill Pies Jarida-ETV, a fall yearling. She is sired by Indian Acres Pies-ET and from a 90 point Royal Oak dam, and her grandam is the well-known 93 point Dixie Lee Tiller Joke, who has sons in A.I and is the dam of All-Americans and Junior All-Americans. The buyers were Jim and Valarie Spreng, Bucyrus.

Selling for $4,500 was Lot 203, Springhill Disco Jarica, a spring yearling maternal sister to Lot 204 and sired by Discos K Getting Dirty-E. The buyer was Dennet Withington, Goldston, North Carolina.

Lot 216, Springhill Latimer Jen sold for $4,100 to Smith Farms, Findley. A winter calf sired by Coulee Crest Fame Latimer-ET, her 81 point dam was by Rozelyn Geo Sherman and the 90 point grandam, Jazmin, had records at 5-00 365 2x 28270 7.3 percent 2060 3.8 percent 1073 and was a daughter of Dixie Lee Tiller Joke.

Selling for $4,000 was Lot 224, HP AC GG Pie Melissa-ET, an 87 point 3-year-old with a nice record in progress and due in September to Springhill Jay Z-TW-P. Appraised at 87 points, she was the Reserve Junior Champion of the Ohio State Fair Junior Show in 2015. Her dam and grandam were both appraised at 94 points. She was purchased by Priscilla Powers, Marysville.

Sale average was $1,585 on all ages.

Auctioneer for the sale was Randall Kiko, Salem, with Charlie Will reading the Holstein pedigrees and Blaine Crosser reading the Guernsey pedigrees. The sale was co-managed by the Guernsey Marketing Service and Kiko Auctions, with assistance from the Ohio Holstein Association. Chad Griffith managed the bids on Cowbuyer.
