HUDSON – The Hiram Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on the Ohio Turnpike Friday that killed a Pennsylvania motorist. The crash occurred near milepost 182 near Hudson shortly after 3 p.m.

According to the highway patrol, a 2014 Ford Fusion, driven by Jarrod T. Mochnick, 25 of Coraopolis, Pa., was traveling eastbound when it ran off the left side of the roadway almost striking the cement median. The Fusion came back on the roadway crossing three lanes of traffic and was struck by an eastbound 2016 Freightliner, a commercial vehicle. The Fusion was struck on the passenger side by the commercial vehicle and came to rest on the right side of the road against a guardrail. The Freightliner drove off the right side of the roadway before coming to a final rest.

Mochnick was pronounced deceased at the Akron City Hospital; the driver of the Freightliner, Shaun A. Smith, 40, of Sunrise, Fla., suffered minor injuries, according to the patrol.
