BOSTON HEIGHTS On March 25, celebrate the grand opening of Tiki Underground, a new Tiki Bar and Restaurant. Located on Old Route 8 just south of Route 303, on the border of Boston Heights and Hudson, Tiki Underground unites Polynesian cocktails and food with traditional bar favorites.

Owners Sean and Jessie Coffey have traveled around the country to share ideas and learn the tiki culture that originated in the 1930s and is still prevalent in California, Hawaii, and Florida. The interior dcor features handmade lighting from Columbus, Ohio, several Witco pieces, and both lighting and a unique carving original displayed at the Kahiki Supper Club (1962-2000, Columbus).

As only the third authentic tiki bar in Ohio, Tiki Underground joins Grass Skirt Tiki Room (Columbus) and Porco Lounge & Tiki Room (Cleveland) to bring specialized cocktails with housemade ingredients, such as their signature cocktail the Mai Tai. The initial cocktails they are serving feature Hurricane, Chi Chi, and the house favorite the Painkiller, which involves the choice of Level 1-4 based on the amount of rum desired.

The dining menu includes island favorites like coconut shrimp, edamame, tropical habanero wings, and a Maui burger with teriyaki and grilled pineapple. It also offers visitors traditional bar favorites like wings, wraps, jalapeno poppers, fried pickles, tacos, and quesadillas. Beer battered cod with fries will be served on Fridays during Lent.

The Tiki Underground grand opening events will start at 4 p.m. on March 25, and include a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. with Village of Boston Heights Mayor Bill Goncy, and a concert starting at 7 p.m. featuring local surf rock band The Kahuna Kings. All events will take place at Tiki Underground, 5893 Akron Cleveland Road, Boston Heights, and are free and open to the public.
