Boston Heights -- As construction crews work to add finishing touches to the Costco Warehouse, applications for membership are being accepted a few miles away at Macedonia Commons. The store will be part of the 167-acre Marketplace development near Interstate 271, the Ohio Turnpike and state Route 8.

The 154,000-square-foot Costco store, which will be the first one in Summit County and the fourth in Northeast Ohio, is scheduled to open June 22 and will also serve as anchor with the Bass Pro Shops, which has not yet begun construction. Costco also has stores in Strongsville, Avon and Mayfield Heights.

"We are currently signing up members," according to Jenny DiGuardi, the new Costco's manager.

The store does not specialize in just one sort of item.

"We sell everything from tires to toilet paper to fresh foods, meats, deli, baked goods and electronics," DiGuardi said. "My last three TVs have come from Costco."

DiGuardi said the company is "proud to be part of the growth of Boston Heights and be the first Costco in Summit County. Anyone can come down and see us at Macedonia Commons and sign up now," DiGuardi said.

Membership applications are being accepted from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 650 East Aurora Road, next to American's Best.

Bass Pros Shops, an outdoor retailer specializing in hunting, fishing, camping and other related outdoor gear, is scheduled to open later this year.

In 2015 the Hudson School Board unanimously approved two revenue-sharing agreements with the Village of Boston Heights for the Bass Pro Shop and Costco. The Board voted to give Bass Pro Shops a 100 percent real estate property tax exemption for 30 years. In return, Boston Heights will share 50 percent of the income tax revenue the Hudson City Schools for that period.

A ribbon cutting will be scheduled for the store's opening at a yet to be determined time, according to Boston Heights Mayor Bill Goncy.

"I have had many residents and surrounding community members inquire about the opening as they are excited to have a Costco so close to utilize," Goncy said. "The contact I have had with the Costco representatives indicate that they will be accommodating to their customers' needs. We at Boston Heights welcome them and plan to create a great relationship."

Officials from Bass Pro Shops have announced construction will begin later this year with a 2017 opening date, Goncy added.

"The new development [Martekplace] will allow Boston Heights to create a sustainable community that will be able to manage its infrastructure needs," Goncy said of the village which is home to about 1,300 residents.
