The Old Northfield Preservation Association will host the annual Ice Cream Social Aug. 2  from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Northfield Center Town Hall. The Ice Cream Social is held in conjunction with the tribute concert that begins at 6 p.m.
Ice cream cones, sundaes, and root beer floats will be available along with hot dogs, chili dogs and nachos and cheese. In addition there will be face painting, balloons, a magician and blood pressure screening.
Proceeds from the Ice Cream Social benefit the Preservation Association’s Nordonia Hills Scholarship Fund.
For the past three years the Preservation Association has presented a Nordonia Hills senior with a $1,000 scholarship.
The concert, which will be held at the gazebo, is meant to thank all the groups and individuals who have helped to bring enjoyable music to the area’s four communities for more than 17 years.
The concert will also serve as a tribute to Shirley Kaiser, who organized the popular summer concerts and died just a few weeks after the 100th concert in the series.
Paul Kaiser, Mrs. Kaiser’s husband, said he could only organize one event this year but has been trying to find someone to take over for Mrs. Kaiser.
“She did all the contacts with the bands,” Kaiser said. “We had a small committtee but they weren’t involved with the bands. One was all I could handle.”
He said he considered calling the Aug. 2 event the final tribute concert, but is still hoping someone or some group will take over, adding they could change the name.
The Sunday summertime shows drew more than 1,000 to each show on average.
