Record Publishing Co.'s "Tools for Schools" project is helping local children get off to a good start this school year.

School supply donations will be collected at our Kent office and delivered to Summit County Children Services in Akron and the Center of Hope in Ravenna.

Suggested donations include loose-leaf college- and wide-ruled notebook paper, plastic school boxes, zippered pencil pouches, erasers, two-pocket folders, No. 2 pencils, black, red or blue pens, boxes of tissues, glue sticks, crayons, non-toxic washable markers, scissors and lunch boxes.

Other supplies needed, for older students, include highlighters, colored pencils, scientific calculators, two-inch/3-ring binders, spiral notebooks, rulers and antibacterial hand sanitizer.

Backpacks are especially needed.

Drop off school supplies at our office, 1050 W. Main St., Kent, until Aug. 7. Supplies collected before July 30 will be delivered to Summit County Children Services in Akron. Those collected after July 30 will go to the Center of Hope in Ravenna.

Monetary donations are also being accepted by both organizations.

Donations to Summit County Children Services can be made at www.summitkids.org by clicking "donor/volunteer opportunities" and using the "donate now" button. Donations also can be mailed to 264 S. Arlington St., Akron 44306 in care of Community Relations. Checks should be made payable to Summit County Children Services.

Send monetary donations for the Center of Hope to 1081 W. Main St., Ravenna 44266. Checks should be made payable to the Center of Hope with "school supplies" written in the memo line.
