Hudson -- A 1993 Hudson High School graduate is set to release the second of his three novels, which is set in Hudson.

John Herrick's novel, "Between These Walls," was scheduled for released Feb. 10 in both print and as an ebook by Segue Blue Publishing.

"I lived in Hudson until 1994," Herrick said. "I was in the Class of 1993, so the new high school opened my senior year. We were the first class to graduate from that new building. I also had the opportunity to perform in 'The Curious Savage,' the first play performed in that new auditorium, in which I portrayed a psychiatrist--I want to say his name was Dr. Emmett."

Herrick, describes his novel as "vulnerable, honest and acute."

"[It's] a story of faith, fire and restoration," Herrick said. "'Between These Walls' braves the crossroads of love and religion to question who we are and who we will become."

The main character is 26-year old Hunter Carlisle, who has a successful sales career, a devoted girlfriend, and a rock-solid faith.

"But Hunter also guards a secret torment: an attraction to other men," according to a press release for the book. "When a career plunge causes muscle tension, Hunter seeks relief through Gabe Hellman, a handsome massage therapist. What begins as friendship takes a sudden turn and forces the two friends to reconsider the boundaries of attraction."

Herrick chose Hudson as a the backdrop because of its "unique" flavor, according to Herrick.

"Hudson is a unique town, from its historic flavor to its more recent transiency among families and the town holds a sentimental place in my heart," Herrick said. "I consider it my adopted hometown. My brothers and I were blessed with an excellent education there. But more than anything, I've used Hudson as a backdrop to inspire its high school students."

Herrick has authored three novels and one non-fiction piece. His second novel, "From the Dead," was also set in Hudson. "From the Dead" and his nonfiction eBook, "8 Reasons Your Life Matters" achieved best-selling status on

Maryglenn McCombs is Herrick's publicist

"I was extremely impressed with the quality of John Herrick's 'Between these Walls' and it's a true honor to have the chance to represent the book," McCombs said. "In addition to being a beautifully-designed product, 'Between these Walls' is a compelling story that grabbed me from the first chapter."

McCombs calls Herrick "a skillful writer" who "excels in creating characters a reader genuinely cares about."

"Protagonist Hunter Carlisle is a character who will stay with readers long after the final page is turned," McCombs added. "Moreover, the storyline has an incredibly realistic feel, which makes for excellent reading."

Herrick's time in Hudson helped fuel his passion for writing and inspired his future works.

"As a teenager with dreams in his heart, I craved to know those dreams could come to pass and drew inspiration from individuals who served as living proof," Herrick said. "So when high school students and others, see my books, I hope it fires them up to dream big and press on into whatever lies ahead for them."
