The '80s are coming back as the Nordonia High School Drama Club prepares to present The Wedding Singer in April.
Based on the popular 1998 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, The Wedding Singer became a hit on Broadway in 2006. With an original pop score inspired by the likes of Cyndi Lauper, David Bowie, Boy George, and Pat Benetar, audiences will be transported back to a time when hair was big and it was a party every night.
The Wedding Singer is the story of New Jersey's favorite wedding singer, Robbie Hart, whose life takes an unexpected turn after he is stood up at his own wedding. Forced to reexamine the meaning of love and marriage, he embarks on a hilarious journey with the help of Julia, a local cater waitress.
Leading this year's cast are Chris Fujikawa and Susan Mantkowski as Robbie and Julia. Other cast members include: Charlene de Jesus as Holly, Steve McFarland as Sammy, Kevin McMichael as George, Alex Ham as Rosie, Callen Ley as Glen, Amber Bills as Linda, and Lindsey Dunham as Angie. Rounding out this year's cast are more than 40 students who will perform multiple roles on stage as part of the ensemble.
Another 50 students are working on crews, running tech, and playing in the orchestra.
Directing this year's production is Nordonia High School's new Director of Drama, Chris Simmons. He will be assisted by Alex Funk. Bill Shaffer will serve as Musical Director while Megan Gargano and Brittney Price will choreograph.
