Christmas tree pick-up in Silver Lake starts Jan. 2

Silver Lake Service Director Dick Fenwick announces the service department will pick up Christmas trees for recycling starting Jan. 2 and will continue until Jan. 18. All ornaments, tinsel, tree stands and plastic bags must be removed or trees will not be picked up since they damage the chipper.

Holiday to affect sanitation services

The New Year's Day holiday will affect sanitation services, said Cuyahoga Falls City Service Director Valerie Wax Carr.

The week starting Dec. 31, sanitation customers who receive service Tuesday through Friday will be delayed by one day. Monday sanitation customers are not affected.

Falls City Hall, Silver Lake Village

closed for New Year's Day

The Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Building, 2310 Second St. will be closed Jan. 1 in observance of Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The Falls Municipal Building will be open Dec. 31.

Silver Lake Village Hall, 2961 Kent Road, will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 in observance of New Year's Day.

holiday clean-up program to begin

The Holiday Clean-up Program is scheduled for all sanitation customers through Dec. 31, Carr said.

Extra bags of trash and bulk items will be picked up curbside free of charge on the customer's regular pick-up day. Residents must have everything curbside by 7 a.m. on regular collection day. No "Party Paks" are allowed during the clean-up period.

2008 Swearing-In Ceremony

for City Council members

The 2008 Swearing-in Ceremony for Cuyahoga Falls City Council members. The ceremony will take place Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. at the Falls River Square Pavilion, according to Mayor Don Robart. City Council members to be sworn-in are: Debbie Ritzinger, Ward 1; Mary Ellen Pyke, Ward 2; Kenneth Barnhart, Ward 3; Mark Ihasz, Ward 4; Diana Colavecchio, Ward 5; Don Walters, Ward 6; Jerry James, Ward 7; Terry Mader, Ward 8 and Kathy Hummel, Council-at-large

Councilmembers At-large Tim Gorbach and Carol Klinger are currently in mid-term. The public is invited to attend the commemorative ceremony to establish in office the 2008 City Council members. Light refreshments will be served following the swearing-in.

Public hearing on Falls Schools'

tax budget is Jan. 9

A public hearing will take place Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the Cuyahoga Falls City School District tax budget for fiscal year 2008-09 at the Office of the Board of Education, 431 Stow Ave. The budget is available for inspection at the treasurer's office after Jan. 1, 2008.
