Beat the heat indoors

Swim indoors this summer at the Fitness Center without the worry of a sunburn. Features of the pool include a water slide, shallow play area and 25-yard lap lanes. Daily rates are available for guests of members, district residents and non-residents. Entry fee includes use of all areas of the facility, including a walk/run track, weight room and courts. holiday hours set

The Fitness Center will be closed July 4 in observance of the holiday. Regular summer hours will be in effect for the remainder of the week as follows: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with the pool closing at 8 p.m. Friday hours are 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday hours are 7 6 p.m., with the pool closing at 6 p.m. both days. Sunday hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the center, with the pool closing at 4:30 p.m. Please note the outdoor Water Park will be open on July 4, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

'Guard Start' offered

for young teens

Is your child too old for day camp and too young to work? Sign up for Guard Start, a program designed for 11- to 14-year-olds. Based at the Outdoor Water Park, this class teaches leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, first aid and basic lifeguard skills. Required skills are swimming 10 feet underwater, ability to swim 25 yards continuously, and treading water for one minute. The five-day class meets Monday to Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting July 9. Cost is $45 for city residents and $55 for others.

weightlifting basics

Introduce strength-training fundamentals to 12- and 13-year-olds by enrolling them in "Pro Teens." Proper form and use of select weight equipment will be the main focus. Upon successful completion, permission to use the weight room when accompanied by an adult is granted. Class meets for one hour; remaining summer dates are July 17 or Aug. 14 from 11:00 a.m. to noon. This is free for members, $25 for district residents and $30 for others. Register at the Fitness Center or online.

Peggy's fitness class a hot choice for summer

Certified personal trainer and fitness instructor Peggy Bartulovic offers her high-energy fitness package this summer on Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings. Step routines, weights, bands and bars are utilized for a balanced workout. Classes are purchased in increments of four, eight or 12. Summer nutrition advice given

Professional nutritional consultant Joann Haw offers counseling sessions by appointment at the Fitness Center. Initial sessions are one hour, with 30-minute followup appointments available. Calculation of a personal eating plan and caloric needs are developed. Fees vary based on residency and package chosen.

Enjoy Christmas in July at Water Park

The third annual "Christmas in July" theme day at the Water Park outdoor pool is July 25. There will be special treats, holiday music, surprise visitors and more. Regular admission prices, hours and policies apply.
