Fundraiser collects more than $2 million
The Children's Miracle Network campaign wrapped up the 2006-07 fundraising year for Akron Children's Hospital by raising more than $2 million during its Celebration Telethon June 3.
Officials from the event say the telethon raises money and awareness for Akron Children's Hospital.
Since 1986, Akron Children's has benefited by more than $22 million from Children's Miracle Network-related activities. Children's Miracle Network -- the alliance of premier hospitals for children -- is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals across North America.

Art fair set for Aug. 18
The University Park Development Corporation will host its second annual University Park Art Fair at Grace Park, a one-day fine art and fine craft show and sale, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event, which will take place in the heart of the University Park district in downtown Akron, is expected to draw more than 100 artists and 10,000 guests, and will feature ceramics, glass, wearable art, furniture, drawings and graphics, fiber, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, painting, photography, sculpture, watercolor, wood art and more.
There also will be artist demonstrations, live entertainment, and refreshments at the Summa Health Systems food and beverage pavilion. Admission to the art fair is free.
Area artists also are invited to exhibit. Registration is $75 per artist and must be submitted by July 7. Student artists are $25 with valid university identification.
