Western Reserve Academy graduate Joe Dempsey, a Stow resident who recently concluded a stellar four-year stint as a catcher with the Butler University baseball team, will continue his playing career in the professional ranks as a member of the Utica Brewmasters of the newly-formed New York State League.

Dempsey, an All-Horizon League First Team catcher in 2007 hit .296 with seven home runs and a career-high 39 runs batted in. During his four-year career, he batted .278 with 25 homers, 119 RBI, 74 runs scored and a .449 slugging percentage.

Dempsey is the second Butler player to sign a professional contract this spring.
