All Silver Lake villagers are invited to come and enjoy the first Community Day presented by the Silver Lake Garden Club June 2 at 10 a.m. behind Village Hall. Events include:Container Gardening demonstration at 10 a.m. Noelle Akins of Petitti's Garden Center and Hostess of the Saturday morning Radio Program will be there to answer questions.The Junior Garden Club will show their skills in "Make and Take" projects. Containers and plants are available for creating planters. Everyone is invited to participate and show their talent.A Children's Science Program -- "Rocket Launch" -- will be shown.The Silver Lake Police Department will present "Safety vehicles -- Bike Safety" checks, plus a chance to explore safety vehicles including a police cruiser and fire truck.All Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Brownies plan to present their special skills and programs, including the future plans of the Eagle Scouts.Representatives of the Silver Lake Park Board will be there to answer questions on planting trees and perennial gardening, as well as an opportunity to sign up for the summer sport programs presented by the Park Board.The Home and School League will have a tasting of cookies. Recipes are from the new, second edition, of the Silver Lake Cookbook published by the Martha Mary Guild.A variety of perennial plants, donated by Garden Club members, are for sale.A lunch of grilled hot dogs, chips and pop is being made available.
