Kimpton Science team finishes sixth
The Kimpton Middle School Science Olympiad team placed sixth overall at the Clearview Invitational Jan. 20.
Ashley Martinez and Creighton Cloud placed fifth in the Balloon Launch Glider event; Billy Thorrson and Maia Marchetti placed third in the Heredity even; Jacob Marzec and Rachel Shumway placed third in the Storm the Castle event; Maia Marchetti and Ashley Martinez placed second in the Disease Detectives event; and Sruthi Sundaram and Connor Dunn placed first in the Tower Building event.
High school Science team earns eighth place
Stow-Munroe Falls High School's Science Olympiad Team placed eighth out of 29 teams at the Clearview Invitational Jan. 20.
Placing in events were the following: Becky Allen and Joe Carlson, second in Sounds of Music; Lisa Hung and Tabitha Stebel, third in Astronomy; Tabitha Stebel and Jessica LaHurd, third in Entomology; Lisa Hung and Joe Carlson, third in Physics; Joe Carlson and Lisa Hung, fourth in Chemistry Lab; Matt Culbert and Nathan Jose, fourth in Five Star Science; Nathan Jose and Vidya Sundaram, fifth in Health Science; Becky Allen and Tabitha Stebel, fifth in Boomilever; and Tim Douds and Tabitha Stebel, sixth in Wright Stuff.
Speech & Debate team places at tournament
Several members of the Stow-Munroe Falls High School Speech & Debate team placed at the Canton Central Catholic Tournament on Jan. 20. They are: Lacie Fischer, first place in Oratorical Interp.; Kori Zanin, third place in Drama; Lindsay Neff, sixth place in Humor; Karuna Ramcharran, fourth in Original Oratory; Colin Beisel and Soundarya Narayan, second place in public forum debate; and Matt McBurney and Rebecca Messinger third place in public forum debate.
Kari Simms and Matt Molinaro were pre-district qualifiers for the State Policy Debate in March.
Spotlight on Stow scheduled for Jan. 31
Eighth-graders and their parents are invited to attend Spotlight on Stow Jan. 31 in Stow-Munroe Falls High School. Students attending private schools or students who are home-schooled can attend a session from 6 to 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
A session entitled "Transition to high school" is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the auditorium. During the session, the school athletic director, the ninth-grade unit principal, class secretary and guidance counselor will be introduced. At 7:30 p.m. the program will continue in the high school commons, with an open house showcasing the school's clubs, activities and sports.

Special education meetings set
The Parent Mentors have set monthly support and informational meetings on the third Tuesday of every month through May.
Parents can choose either the morning meeting from 9:30 to 11:30 or the evening meeting from 6:30 to 8:30. Both sessions take place in St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 3725 Kent Road. Attendees should enter through the west entrance of the church.
Meetings are open to any parent whose child is receiving special education services through the Stow-Munroe Falls School District.

Stow Alliance Preschool to host open house
Stow Alliance Preschool, a ministry of Stow Alliance Fellowship, will host an open house Feb. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. until noon.
Staff members will be available in the classrooms to meet with prospective parents and to answer questions.
Classes are available for children who will be 3 by Sept. 30 and pre-kindergarten classes are available for 4-year-olds (by Sept. 30) and 5-year-olds. Classes take place two, three or four days a week for sessions lasting two and a half hours.
The preschool classrooms are located on the main level of Stow Alliance Fellowship Church, 4460 Stow Road. Attendees are asked to use the church's main entrance.

Preschool open house planned for Feb. 6
The United Methodist Church in Stow will host a preschool open house Feb. 6 from 7 to 8 p.m.
The rooms will be open and teachers will be available to answer any questions.
The church offers both morning and afternoon classes for 3- and 4-year-olds and a morning class for 5-year-olds. The classes for 3-year-olds meet Tuesdays and Thursdays and the classes for 4-year-olds meet either Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Monday-Thursday. Morning sessions run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and afternoon sessions run from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The class for 5-year-olds meets Monday through Thursday from 9:15 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.
Registration for the 2007-08 school year will take place Feb. 16 from 9 to 11 a.m. A $50 nonrefundable registration fee is required. Acceptance into classes will be made known at this time. There are limited immediate openings in all classes.

CVCA to host community open house
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy will host a Community Open House Feb. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Visit the Activities Fair and meet students representing 20 varsity sports, 15 fine arts groups and 25 co-curricular clubs and activities. Tour classrooms, meet with faculty, and learn more about the curriculum offered at the Academy. Take this opportunity to ask questions about curriculum, tuition, financial aid, guidance services, admissions and academic support.
Also, attendees are invited to stay as the school's guests to cheer on CVCA's men's basketball team. They will receive a free game ticket and a concession stand voucher for that evening.
Located at 4687 Wyoga Lake Road, CVCA has a 45-acre campus with a 125,000-square foot complex that houses classrooms, six science labs, five computer labs, a library, two gymnasiums and a stadium with an all-weather track.

Kindergarten registration scheduled for April 11
Kindergarten registration for the 2007-08 school year will take place April 11 at 7 p.m. at all six Stow-Munroe Falls City elementary schools.
Kindergarten Registration Night is designed to provide detailed information about programs and sessions. All-Day Kindergarten information will be available. Those interested will need to bring a $100 deposit to register. Children eligible for kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2007.
Parents will need to bring the following documents: proof of residency: i.e., lease, purchase agreement, utility bill (no phone or cell phone bill) or driver's license; original birth certificate or notarized copy; immunization record; Social Security number; and certified copy of child's custody/divorce order (if applicable, state law requires a copy of the complete court-ordered agreement be placed in the student's cum file).
Creative Cooperative Preschool has openings
Creative Cooperative Pre-school has openings in its 2-year-old "Mommy/Daddy and Me" class Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m.
Each class has a different theme -- with projects, stories, music and movement reflecting the current theme -- providing children with a well-rounded program that is structured, organized and fun. Classes are different each week, yet maintain a familiar routine that is important for young children.
