by Kristin CasaleReporterStow -- Love is in the air as the Stow-Munroe Falls High School Alumni Association prepares for its first Valentine's Day Dance. The association will sponsor the dance Feb. 10 from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Silver Springs Lodge, located in Silver Springs Park at 5027 Stow Road. There will be dancing, raffles and food, and the Santi Marino Isenbarger Trio will perform.Association Past President Bob Cooper said he hopes 125 people attend the dance, stating this is the first time the group will host a Valentine's Day gathering and the first time an association event will be open to the public."We have our annual picnic [during the summer], and we wanted to add an event in the winter," he said. "We wanted to have two major events."The two-year-old alumni association coordinates class reunions and hosts social events for graduates."[The association] is growing," said Cooper, stating the group is involved in community service projects and provides scholarships to current students. The proceeds from the Valentine's Day Dance will go toward both of those efforts, he said."We try to raise funds from all of our events for different things," said Cooper. "[Last year], we helped a couple of different families at Christmas time."Tickets are $10 for alumni association members and $15 for non-members. The ticket price includes food, beer, wine, soda and entertainment. Attendees are directed to call Cooper at 330-882-3700 or President Tony Cocozzo at 330-338-3676 to purchase tickets before the event.Association members do not have a goal in mind regarding how much they would like to raise from the dance's proceeds, but they are looking forward to the new gathering."I think it's going to be a really nice event," said Cooper. "It will be a nice evening out for people."The association primarily acts as a network for high school graduates to stay in touch, he said, but events such as the dance allow alumni from different graduating classes to get together."You just see a lot of your old friends," said Cooper. This year's alumni picnic will serve as a way for various classes to gather, and it also will serve as the reunion for the Class of 1962, he said. The alumni picnic is scheduled for Aug. 11. While details about the event are forthcoming, Cooper said the association is accepting help from volunteers. Those interested in becoming involved with the alumni association are directed to call Cooper or Cocozzo or visit kcasale@recordpub.comPhone: 330-686-3917
