Dr. David Skarupa, a Nordonia High School Class of 1992 graduate, was selected to be a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Skarupa was one of 1,640 initiates from around the world to gain the prestigious title in 2014.

To be considered for Fellowship, applicants must be a graduate of an approved medical school, have completed advanced training in one of the 14 surgical specialties recognized by the College, must possess certification by an American surgical specialty board and must have been in practice for at least one year at the time of his or her application. Skarupa received a medical doctorate in 2005 from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health and is currently practicing at University of Florida College of Medicine located in Jacksonville, Fla.

Skarupa attained board certification from the American Board of Surgery in 2012. According to a release by the University of Florida Skarupa has strong professional interest in acute care surgery, neurotrauma, and thoracic and vascular trauma and holds membership in other professional societies, including Eastern Association of Trauma and Society of Critical Care Medicine.
