All proceeds will benefit a mission trip to Alaska in August to send small teams of volunteers to four fishing villages in the chain of islands southeast of the mainland. One team will be sent to Sitka, an island town of approximately 8,800 people and home to Sheldon Jackson Presbyterian College, to help with maintenance and landscaping on the campus grounds. The other three work groups will help staff the Salvation Army's Vacation Bible School programs for children in the towns of Hoonah, Kake and Haines. "We are pleased to be able to join with the Salvation Army again for the VBS programs," said mission Director Tom Edmiston. "They often don't have enough volunteers to run programs in all three sites, and it's heartwarming to work with the children."The church last sent a mission team to Alaska in 2001.
