TWINSBURG — Like a good neighbor, State Farm is still there.

But with a new agent.

Dan McCoy is the newest State Farm insurance agent in Twinsburg. He opened his office at 10804 Ravenna Road in January and cut the ribbon on his new venture on Friday, June 1. His agency fills a void left by State Farm agent Al Naylor, who retired last year, McCoy said.

McCoy’s office is two floors and 2,200 square feet. There is a reception area, front desk, coffee bar, offices and conference room. The space was formerly leased by a massage therapist, he said. McCoy said he has three employees and plans to hire two more. McCoy said he chose to locate in Twinsburg because of opportunity and convenience.

"There were a couple different openings around the area," McCoy said. "I knew the agent who was retiring. He was a good guy; seemed like he had a good book of business. And Twinsburg is not too far away from my house." McCoy resides in the northeastern part of Cuyahoga Falls where he was raised. He is a graduate of Woodridge High School.

McCoy started out in the insurance field working for another agent in Cuyahoga Falls for two years.

"Twinsburg is a lot like Cuyahoga Falls, and it seemed like a good place with good people to start my agency," he said. "Plus, there are a lot of nice towns in the surrounding area."

McCoy says he got a glimpse early on of what insurance work is all about watching his father, Jack McCoy, who owns a State Farm agency on Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls.

"I never really wanted to do it in the beginning because that’s what my dad did. I wanted to do my own thing and be my own man," McCoy said. "But growing up I watched him and how he did a lot with our community. He was involved in a lot of things and worked with a lot of people. He knew a lot of people. It just seemed like something that I would be good at."
