The inexperienced but quickly learning Tallmadge boys golf team made some more strides Monday.

The Blue Devils finished seventh with a score of 362 at the 18-team Bob MacLaren Invitational at Ohio Prestwick Country Club in Uniontown.

Copley won the competition with a score of 322 and Beloit West Branch (327) and Alliance (333) placed second and third, respectively.

"It was another day of improvement for us," Tallmadge head coach Jon Shomo said. " The greens were running at a 12 on the stimpmeter, which made being below the hole very important."

Darin Hudak shot a 75 to lead the Blue Devils. He just missed medalist honors due to a scorecard playoff. Mogadore’s Ben Lansinger also shot a 75 to earn medalist honors.

Hudak had four birdies and one double bogey.

"Darin exhibited his usual mix of crisp shotmaking and being able to recover from trouble," Shomo said. "A 75 there is terrific."

Caleb Fairhurst was next for Tallmadge with a personal-best 83.

"Caleb kept his ball in play and shot his best round ever," Shomo said.

Logan Phillips reached double digits for the first time in an 18-hole match with a 99. Ty Kester and Isaiah Ulrich each shot a 105 to round out the Blue Devils’ team scoring.

"Ty and Isaiah gave great efforts and the learning process continues for all," Shomo said.
