It’s a safe bet very few people thought the Aurora boys golf team was much of a threat to claim conference supremacy coming into the 2019 season.
Those skeptics may want to reconsider such doubts now.
The Greenmen took a monstrous step toward capturing a conference title after winning the American Conference portion of the Suburban League Tournament. The competition, which is the first of four Suburban League tournaments this season, took place Thursday at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley.
Aurora placed first out of seven teams with a score of 324. Kent Roosevelt took second with a score of 333 and Copley captured third (344).
"I’m very happy for and proud of our team," Greenmen head coach Dave Munson said. "Our team will continue to work to improve."
Aurora did not have the medalist on their team. Instead, they had three players share runner-up honors.
The Greenmen’s trio of Luke Radis, Bradley Valdman and Mason Wolkov each shot a 79 to finish in a tie for second place.
Barberton’s Jaydan Morgan earned medalist honors with a 77. Rounding out the team scoring for Aurora was Alex Ventimiglia, who shot an 87.
