Cuyahoga Valley Youth Ballet (CVYB) recently announced that the youth ballet troupe has been renamed Ballet Excel Ohio.
According to the organization's artistic director, Mia Klinger, the new name clearly expresses Ballet Excel Ohio's commitment to achieve excellence in its dancers and training and remain steadfast to its roots of classical ballet.
"In the nearly 40 years since the company's founding, we have been continually evolving," says Klinger. "This name change signifies the next stage of our growth. Ballet Excel Ohio better conveys our mission and assists in raising our visibility beyond the Cuyahoga Valley."
Ballet Excel Ohio is one of the oldest youth dance companies in the country. Founded in 1975 by Nan Klinger of the Klinger Excellence in Dance Studio in Cuyahoga Falls, it was the first youth ballet in the state and is among the 10 oldest in the country. Ballet Excel Ohio is recognized for its annual spring production of an original work based on children's literature, as well as community and educational outreach programs such as Ballet Excel On Tour and Reach Out And Dance (ROAD).
Its premiere of Tom Gold's "Beauty and the Beast" and Tom Smith's "Cliques" are scheduled for March 15 and 16, 2014, at the Akron Civic Theatre.
