Stow -- To raise money for its community projects, the Rotary Club of Stow-Munroe Falls will hit the links.

The club's annual golf outing is scheduled for June 1 at Fox Den Golf Course, 2770 Call Road. The cost is $85, which includes 18 holes, a cart, lunch, dinner and beverages. The shotgun golf outing will begin at 11 a.m., with foursomes on each hole. Tickets for dinner only are $18.

Rotary member Jon Sues said he is looking forward to the event.

"It's always a lot of fun," he said. "It's open to the public. I'm in charge of the putting contest, which takes place on the practice green. People can compete before they tee off, or when they finish their game."

Rotary member Mark Lucco said he has been involved with the event since its inception 12 years ago.

Lucco said last year's event raised $9,000, an amount he hopes to pass this year.

"This helps fund Rotary's community projects and scholarships," he said. "Since we started, we have raised more each year."

Sues said past Rotary projects included donating $25,000 to construct a skate park in Oregon Trails Park in 2004.

"Everything goes back into the community," he said.

According to Lucco, last year's event was the first time organizers used a shotgun format so groups can start at the same time. He said with a shotgun format, each foursome will begin at a different hole.

"Everybody is done at the same time," he said. "It's easier when we give out prizes because we don't have to wait for some foursomes to finish playing."

Lucco said prizes will be given out throughout the day.

"We have major sponsors on all holes with a par three, and those have prizes from local businesses," he said. "We also will give $1,000 to anyone who makes a hole in one. It hasn't happened yet, though. We have contests like the longest drive on some holes. We made sure there is a contest on every hole."

Lucco joked he also "guarantees" nice weather.

"Last year was the first time it rained," he said. "So this year, our luck will improve, and it will be a warm, sunny day."

Registration forms are available from committee members, said Lucco.
