Stow -- Pride and enthusiasm filled the halls of Fishcreek Elementary School May 16, as students displayed their artwork during the school's Art Show and Ice Cream Social.
Art teachers Judy Newhall and Barb Moser, along with the PTA, helped put together the event.
The walls of the school were covered in hundreds of drawings, paintings and other types of art from the kindergartners through fourth-graders.
Newhall, who also teaches art at Riverview Elementary, believes the art show is an important event in the lives of her young students.
"It's an affirmation of what the kids have accomplished," she said. "The art show lets the kids take pride in what they've done."
The show also allowed students' families to take notice of the art curriculum at the school.
"It's a good opportunity for parents and grandparents to see their children's art and what they do," said Newhall.
Fourth-grader Rachel Pokelsek enjoyed pointing out several of her pieces of art to her family. She also liked seeing her work displayed.
"It feels pretty cool," she said.
The school's PTA sponsored the Ice Cream Social, which took place alongside the show. The proceeds from the social went to the school's Relay For Life team.
PTA member Karen McCaffrey said she liked the way the art show and social complimented one another.
"[The social] gives families the chance to socialize after viewing the art," she said.
Newhall added, "It's just a relaxing night for the parents and the kids."
