Six members of the Aurora High School wrestling team traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, for the USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals, which took place Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The competition featured the freshman/sophomore division and the junior/senior division.

Freshman Evan Anderson won the national title at 182 pounds with a 4-0 record. He earned a pin in the final.

Freshman Nic Willingham placed third at 106 pounds. He lost early in the tournament to the eventual champion. He finished 9-1 and had a six-match winning streak. 

Sophomore twins Robbie Sagaris and Anthony Sagaris also competed. Anthony won his first match in dominant fashion, but then lost his next two at 120 pounds. Robbie finished 4-2 at 113 pounds. His tournament run ended with a loss to the eventual runner-up.

Senior Andy Garr finished 11-1 and took third at 145 pounds. Garr lost early and then won nine straight matches.

Junior Ethan Anderson went 4-2 at 170 pounds. He won two matches in overtime.
