They reached their goal Thursday.
If they want to reach their ultimate goal, Hudson tennis players Susie Fan and Laura Nijhuis will have to do it the hard way.
Fan, a senior, and Nijhuis, a sophomore, settled for the fourth seed at a Division I sectional competition, which concluded Saturday at Springside Racquet and Fitness Club in Akron.
They lost a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Walsh Jesuit’s team of Lily Joyce and Emma Kealy in the semifinals.
Fan and Nijhuis had to deal with more maroon and gold in the consolation final. Unfortunately, that match didn’t work out so well, either.
They lost to the Warriors’ other doubles team of Tatum Carmichael and Katie Devine 6-3, 6-4.
Fan and Nijhuis are scheduled to play in a district tournament next Thursday at Springside. Play is set to begin at 9 a.m.
"The girls played with great determination, but could not apply the finishing shots on the big points," Explorers head coach Tim Morgan said. "They are grateful for the opportunity to compete in today’s significant matches.
"A special word of gratitude and thanks for the support of our entire varsity girls team who turned out at today’s matches. Their cheering was amazing."
