Aurora junior tennis player Skylar Joslyn still had a chance to advance to district play after her performance at the Medina Division I sectional competition Wednesday at Springside Racquet and Fitness Club in Akron.
Joslyn advanced to the quarterfinals by winning three matches. She earned a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Noelle Kidd, a 6-1, 6-1 win over Akron Firestone’s Grace Moritz and a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Medina’s Deeya Rodrigues.
Joslyn is scheduled to play the top seed, Mia Zivkovic, Thursday for a berth in the district competition.
Unfortunately for the rest of the Greenmen, their season is over.
Aurora’s doubles team of senior Bella Burdick and sophomore Norah O’Callaghan posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Wadsworth’s Meredith Van Dyke and Melissa Corbett.
But they were eliminated against Highland’s Julia Gillin and Maddie Arbuckle (6-3, 6-1).
Junior Dottie Horvat lost to Hudson’s Sunny Fan 6-1, 6-1 after defeating Copley’s Jenna Karlovec 6-2, 6-0.
Sophomore Quincy Bizjak lost to Nordonia’s Arianna Pearson 6-0, 6-1 in her first match.
The Greenmen’s other doubles team of senior Mia Bizjak and junior Olivia French lost its first match to Hudson’s duo of Jennifer Grainger and Katie Tuttle 6-4, 6-0.
