It’s only week three and Nordonia football may be a work in progress, but the bottom line is the Knights have already exceeded their 2017 win total.
Nordonia played its home opener Friday and improved to 3-0 with a 35-26 win over Mayfield at Boliantz Stadium.
The Knights found their running back in a big way, finishing with a 354-99 edge in rushing yards. They also had a 25-12 edge in first downs vs. the Wildcats.
Nordonia nearly had three rushers run for more than 100 yards. Quarterback Robbie Levak rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Nyles Beverly went for 115 yards and touchdown and Sal Perrine rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Levak had a decent day through the air, going 17-of-30 for 191 yards and one interception, but Nordonia’s ground game negated the necessity for a big air attack. Julius Jones had eight catches for 99 yards.
After spotting the Wildcats at 7-0 lead, Nordonia put 21 straight points and never trailed from there. The Knights led by as much as 35-20 after a 1-yard touchdown run by Nick Peters with 8:44 left in the game.
Nordonia opens play in the Suburban League National Conference Friday, as it travels to Art Wright Stadium to face Wadsworth. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
