Twinsburg's volleyball squad was eager to hit the courts with Jessica Mazanetz as the Tiger’s new head coach.
After going 8-13 last year and 4-10 in the Suburban League National Conference, the Tigers are hoping to improve against a super strong schedule.
The Tigers are off to a 1-1 start.
Returning players for the Tigers are senior Simone Gest, senior Jill Spindler, senior Kamaree Walker, senior Bailey Wylde and sophomore Bryanna Curry.
Three other seniors are in their first season — Caryn Radcliff, Camryn Beskur-Fontaine and Tyshanee Allison.
Junior Ally Schank will make an impact after seeing some action in 2017. She is a setter.
Junior Alyssa Willis and sophomore Kierra Willis will contribute at outside hitter. Kierra Willis is a middle hitter as well.
The Lady Tigers faced a strong North Royalton unit Aug. 30 in a league battle on the road and fell 3-1. The scores were 16-25, 14-25, 25-17 and 20-25.
North Royalton is 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Spindler had a strong contest with 14 points, five digs and served well with four aces.
Walker posted 13 assists with a strong effort and Gest had eight kills to lead the Lady Tigers.
Twinsburg won the season and league opener over visiting Cuyahoga Falls 3-0 on Aug. 28 with scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-23.
Gest had a big outing as she led in kills (12).
Radcliff put up nine digs for the Lady Tigers, who also got 11 assists from Walker. Spindler contributed three aces in the win.
Alyssa Willis has also showed flashes for Twinsburg.
In upcoming league play, Twinsburg will host Stow-Munroe Falls Sept. 6, host Wadsworth Sept. 11, and play at Hudson Sept. 13. The locals will play at Chagrin Falls Sept. 15 in a non-league contest.
