They have some catching up to do.
But the Greenmen still have a shot at the Suburban League American Conference title.
The Aurora girls cross country team finished second with a 5-1 record at the Suburban League Super Duals Saturday at Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton.
Highland won the competition with a 6-0 record and Tallmadge took third with a 4-2 record.
Aurora defeated the Blue Devils (25-36), Kent Roosevelt (15-50), Copley (15-48), Revere (15-50) and Barberton, which did not have enough runners to post a team score.
The Greenmen’s lone loss came to the Hornets (23-32).
Highland’s Kaylie Kenne placed first out of 129 runners with a time of 19 minutes, 8 seconds.
Junior Karsen Zabell, a Division I regional qualifier last year, led Aurora with a 14th-place clocking of 20:53.
Freshman Morgan Schmitt was next for the Greenmen with an 18th-place time of 21:10.
Rounding out the top five for Aurora were senior Katy Fellenstein (21st, 21:14), sophomore Mikayla Jones (23rd, 21:25) and sophomore Ila Kerchenski (33rd, 21:51).
Junior Caroline Eggett led the Greenmen in the open race with an eighth-place clocking of 23:36.
Aurora will get another crack at the Suburban League Championships, which are scheduled to take place next month at Silver Creek.
