The Ambassadors 2002 age 16-and-younger girls soccer team, which is based in Twinsburg, completed its season at the U.S. Club Soccer National Championship Tournament July 24 in Aurora, Colorado.

The Ambassadors, led by coach Mario Houston, won the US Club Soccer State Cup in June. As a result, the team was eligible to play at the US Club Soccer Regional Tournament in Chicago.

Due to excessive rain the week leading up to the Regional Cup, the tournament was canceled at the last minute. However, a few days later, the Midwest Regional Committee named the state champions as the teams to move on to play in the National Cup.

The girls lost their first match to a team from New Hampshire 8-3. They bounced back and won 5-4 against Franklin Pierce Soccer Club from Washington.

Their third match was a must win to move on and play in the finals. The Ambassadors played Real Colorado Edge Select and held them scoreless until the last five minutes of the match when they conceded a goal on a defensive misstep.

They adjusted their plan to put more players forward to level the score and conceded a second goal with a minute to play. They lost 2-0 to Colorado, which won the National Cup.
