It will be a difficult task for the Tallmadge boys golf team to win the Suburban League American Conference title.

But the Blue Devils are by no means out of the race.

Tallmadge finished fourth with a score of 340 in the seven-team American Conference of the Suburban League preseason tournament Thursday at J.E. Good Park Golf Course in Akron.

Theodore Roosevelt won the competition with a score of 323 and Revere (326) and Highland (330) placed second and third, respectively.

Darin Hudak led the Blue Devils with a 77 to share medalist honors with Highland's duo of Cooper Hrabak and Nathan Fousek.

Hudak finished with an eagle and two birdies on the front nine. He sank a shot from 113 yards away on No. 7.

Noah Bowser was next for the Blue Devils with an 85 and Jake Reifsnyder and Brandon Gray each shot an 89.

"Noah took an unfortunate two-stroke penalty on the 12th when he and another competitor mistakenly teed off from the wrong tee ground," Shomo said. "Our other four guys battled it out well on a great course."

If it wants at least a piece of the title,Tallmadge will most likely have to win all of its conference matches and then win the Suburban League postseason tournament, which takes place later in the season.

"This event makes up approximately 30 percent of the race for the league title," Blue Devils head coach Jon Shomo said. "We didn't put ourselves in A-1 position, but didn't entirely play ourselves out of it either.

"We can improve on this one and will need to win most of our nine-hole matches to have a shot back at Good Park in late September."
