There is no denying it.
The Aurora boys golf team was hit hard by graduation.
The Greenmen lost four seniors from last year. They are district qualifier Michael Avalon, James Robinson, Matthew Maselli and Brandon Schambach.
Avalon, the team’s top player throughout last season, plans to attend Miami (Oxford) University and was one of 25 Ohio caddies to have been awarded the Evans Scholarship, a full housing and tuition college grant based on excellent academics, a strong caddie record and outstanding character.
Avalon also was a first-team All-Suburban League American Conference pick and Robinson received honorable mention.
Thanks mainly to these four seniors, Aurora finished 9-4-1 overall and 4-2 in the American Conference last fall.
The Greenmen finished third during the regular season and fifth at the 2017 Suburban League postseason tournament. Highland is the reigning American Conference champion.
This year, Aurora will be led by senior Spencer Harris and sophomores Luke Radis and Mason Wolkov. Radis, a second-team American Conference selection in 2017, recently competed at the Kenny Novak Championship.
The Greenmen are led by fifth-year head coach Dave Munson (27-16-1). The junior varsity coach is David Dankelson and Lizzy D’Amato is a volunteer coach.
Aurora is scheduled to make its 2018 debut at the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Invitational Monday at Silver Lake Country Club. Play is set to begin at 9 a.m.
