Hegenauer and McDonald competed in the swimming event. Hegenauer earned gold medals in the 100-yard backstroke, the 100 individual medley, the 50 butterfly and the 500 freestyle and a bronze medal in the 100 breaststroke in the women’s 70-to-74 age group.
McDonald won gold in the 200 breaststroke, silver in the 100 breaststroke and bronze in the 100 backstroke and the 200 breaststroke. He also placed fourth in the 500 freestyle in men’s 65-69 age group.
All 10 swims (top-four finishes) qualified them to compete in the National Senior Games in 2019 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
