The Aurora girls track and field team is in first place with 21.25 points after the first day of the 12-team Austintown-Fitch Division I district meet was completed Wednesday.

The competition is scheduled to resume Friday at 5 p.m.

Leah Angelo won the district title with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches in the high jump. She defeated Warren G. Harding’s Faith Burch on a tiebreaker.

Chayanne Conley took third in the shot put with a throw of 35-3.5.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Marissa Sesny, Katy Fellenstein, Madeline Schmitt and Karsen Zabell placed fourth with a time of 10:01.68.

Brianna Rawlings finished in a four-way tie for eighth in the long jump with a leap of 4-9.

The top four athletes in each event and top four relay teams advance to the regional competition, which is scheduled to take place Wednesday and May 25 at Fitch. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. both days.

Qualifying for Friday’s finals were the 800 relay team of Julia Brezovec, Jane Puzder, Morgan Riedel and Brianna Rawlings; Riedel in the 400; Schmitt and Sesny in the 800; Brezovec and Rawlings in the 200; and the 1,600 relay team of Sesny, Olivia Ryncarz, Skylar Joslyn and Riedel.
