The Western Reserve Academy softball team made a smashing 2018 debut Tuesday.

The host Pioneers posted a 16-6 victory over Gates Mills Hawken. The game was called after six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Laura Eldon led Reserve’s offense with four hits, including a double, five runs scored, four stolen bases and three runs batted in. She also drew a walk.

Megan Hovan had two hits, including a double, five runs scored, four stolen bases, three walks and two RBIs.

Amy Kerr contributed two hits, including a double, and an RBI and Miranda Namiotka had two hits, including a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Tori Kramer got the win in the pitcher’s circle despite issuing eight walks in five innings of work.
