In his first trip to the state wrestling tournament, Nordonia junior 138-pounder Mitchell Collica has found his way to the Division I state podium.

Collica earned All-Ohio honors by advancing to the seventh-place match Friday at Value City Arena in Columbus.

Collica opened the day by facing undefeated Daniel Segura of Dublin Scioto in the quarterfinals. Collica took an early lead before getting put on his back by Segura, as he lost a 15-6 major decision.

Needing a win to secure All-Ohio honors, Collica got it by squeezing out a 5-3 win over Olentangy’s James White.

In the third consolation match, Collica faced a familiar opponent in Stow-Munroe Falls’ Dan Patten. Pattern and Collica were teammates at Walsh Jesuit last season.

Collica lost a 12-3 major decision. He will wrestle the Division I seventh-place match Saturday versus Elyria’s Matt Zuckerman.
