The Nordonia girls basketball team continues to scorch its opponents.

During the last two weeks, the Knights routed Akron Firestone 92-36, North Royalton 72-35 and Revere 68-43.

On Jan. 31, however, Nordonia got a scare at home from Suburban League National Conference rival Cuyahoga Falls on Senior Night.

The Knights were staring at a 20-7 deficit after one quarter and trailed 30-18 at halftime.

"Cuyahoga Falls started out pretty tough against us," said Nordonia head coach Julie Buckler. "They had a great game plan.

"Then at halftime we talked to the girls and told them that we weren’t playing our type of game."

Message received.

Nordonia took the lead in the third quarter and never looked back. The Knights led 41-34 entering the fourth quarter.

Leading the way for Nordonia was freshman forward Maddi Cluse, who scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds and 2 assists.

Junior guard Soleil Barnes scored 15 points and had 6 rebounds and 2 assists, while senior guard Sandra Spellman had 9 points.

"Sandra had three 3-pointers in the third quarter, which really helped," said Buckler.

In the win over Firestone Feb. 3 it was all Nordonia all day long.

The Knights led 23-7 after one quarter, 59-19 at the half and 80-29 after three quarters.

Barnes scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Sophomore forward Lizzie Imrie had 15 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Cluse scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals, while freshman guard Hallie Majoros scored 13 points and had 2 assists.

Spellman had 12 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists.

Against National Conference rival North Royalton Wednesday, Nordonia led just 11-9 after the first quarter but then got it in gear in the second quarter in extending its lead to 29-17 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the Knights were in command 62-26.

"As a team, I think we followed the game plan pretty well," said Buckler. "North Royalton has a very good post player, and Lizzie and Maddi did a good job defending her."

Barnes scored 24 points and had 5 rebounds, an assist and 4 steals. Imrie had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals, while Cluse also had 15 points plus 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

In the win over Revere, a Suburban League American Conference rival, Saturday Nordonia led 14-7 after the first quarter, 43-19 at the half and 57-38 after three quarters.

"I think we came out with energy," said Buckler. "In the first half we had our end, and then in the second half Revere went on a little run. Our defense continues to help get us points because we scored a lot off of our transition game."

Spellman scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers, and had 2 steals. Barnes had 14 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and a whopping 8 steals.

Cluse had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists, while Imrie had 12 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocked shots.

Nordonia is scheduled to take a 16-5 overall record and a 9-4 National Conference mark into its regular-season finale Wednesday at Twinsburg at 7:30 p.m.

The sixth-seeded Knights are set to host 11th-seeded Shaker Heights in a Euclid Division I sectional semifinal Saturday at 1 p.m.
