Western Reserve Academy senior boarding student Abby King received the Gold Medal Monday for her efforts during the fall on the soccer field.
The Grosse Ile Township, Mich., resident is the 291st recipient of the award.
Established in 1950, the Gold Medal Award is WRA's most prestigious athletic award.
The award honors a senior varsity athlete who has dominated his or her sport at all levels of competition and received recognition from outside the school community.
In addition to athletic accomplishments, the recipient is a positive role model for the WRA community and has shown a proven commitment to WRA, both on and off the field. King was the soccer captain this past season and also is a captain of the lacrosse team.
King has been selected to play in the Division III Senior All-Star game, which is scheduled for Saturday at Marlington High School in Alliance. The game is set to begin at 12:45 p.m.
King's older sister Sidney is a 2015 graduate of WRA and also was a Gold Medal recipient.
King's younger sister Whitney is a freshman at WRA.
King recently made a commitment to continue her academic, soccer and lacrosse careers at Denison University in Granville.
WRA is scheduled to offer its athletics open house Dec. 1 at the Murdough Athletic Center. The open house is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
