AURORA -- The Greenmen baseball squad scheduled a couple of extra non-league games early last week against Notre Dame Cathedral Latin, and came away with two victories to raise its record to 20-5 heading into its Division I regional semifinal contest against Mentor.
In a game at Aurora, the Greenmen prevailed 4-3, and then when the club went to Chardon, it easily won 12-5.
Aurora scored all of its runs in the first game in the third inning, while NDCL tallied one run in the third and 2 in the fourth. AHS managed 6 hits to NDCL's 5.
Connor Bizjak started on the mound and pitched 4 innings, earning the win. He received relief help from Trevor Mitch for the last 3 innings.
Jonathan Blue and Brent Henderson each clubbed 2 hits, while Jacob Loudon drove in 2 runs and Henderson drove in one.
In the second contest, the Lions jumped on the Greenmen for 4 runs in the first inning. Aurora's big innings were the fourth when it plated 4 runs and the seventh when it scored 6. The locals pounded out 15 hits.
Joe Capretta and Jacob Blue each swatted 3 hits and Loudon, Will Hermanowski and Jonathan Blue each added 2. Capretta drove in 4 runs and Henderson and Loudon each drove in 2.
Tate Larrance pitched the first 5 innings and earned the victory, while Dominic Tyburski relieved him for the last 2 innings.
The games were tuneups for regional tournament play for both teams, as NDCL was scheduled to face Tallmadge in the Division II regional semifinals May 26 at the Ballpark at Hudson.
