The Hudson boys track and field team was in third place with 21 points after the first day of the Nordonia Division I district meet May 17 at Boliantz Stadium in Macedonia.
The district meet was scheduled to conclude May 19. Results were not available at press time.
The top four athletes in each event and top four relays advance to the regional competition, which is set to take place May 24 and 26 at Austintown-Fitch High School. The competition is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. both days.
The 3,200 meter relay team of Blake Roberts, Connor Sinko, Lucas Lay and Adam Beucler advanced to the regional competition with a first-place time of 8 minutes, 3.87 seconds.
Nathan Kravitz finished fifth in the pole vault with a vault of 12 feet, 4 inches. Teammate Noah Beseda took seventh (12 feet) in the pole vault.
Samuel Bashian placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 133-6. Greg Mailey captured seventh (20-7.5) in the long jump.
Qualifying for finals for the Explorers were the 800 relay team of Dawson Wervey, Greg Mailey, Zack Rickey and Nivash Jayaram; the 400 relay team of Mailey, Rickey, Jayaram and Maxwell Doyle; Wervey in the 400; Jack Good and Eric Halford in the 800; and the 1,600 relay team of Luke Good, Lay, Jayaram and Wervey.
