The Nordonia High School girls track and field team is one step closer to a fifth straight league and/or conference championship.

It's a big step, too. That's because the Lady Knights recently finished the dual meet portion of their schedule undefeated. They did so by knocking off Suburban League National Conference rival Wadsworth on the road May 2.

Nordonia clipped the Lady Grizzlies by the score of 82-46.

With the convincing victory, the Lady Knights finished the dual meet part of the 2017 campaign with an unblemished mark of 7-0. Nordonia also is 7-0 in the National Conference heading into next week's Suburban League Meet.

"With the win, we've put ourselves in position to accomplish our number-one goal, which is winning a conference championship," said Nordonia head coach Scott Barwidi.

Nordonia displayed its dominance with a number of double winners in individual events. In fact, the Lady Knights boasted three such winners. They were senior Sunny Starcher, junior Katrina Eterovich, and junior Faith Banks.

Banks captured a pair of individual track events. She accomplished the feat in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.5 seconds and the 400 with an effort of 1:00.2.

Katrina Eterovich, on the other hand, showed her prowess in the hurdle events. She did so by finishing first in both the 100 high hurdles (16.7) and the 300 intermediate hurdles (52.3).

Starcher was a double winner in individual field events. She captured the high jump with a height of 5-1 and the long jump with a distance of 15-10.

Two other Nordonia athletes claimed first place in individual track events. They were junior Aja DuVall in the 100 with a time of 13.1 and junior Carmen Licht in the 800 with an effort of 2:22.6.

In addition, sophomore Sarah Shedroff finished first in the shot put. She heaved the put a distance of 35-9.5 en route to victory.

Nordonia also crossed the finish line first in two relay races. One of them was the 400 relay with a time of 51.9. The members of that unit were junior Jazz Scott, sophomore Lauren Pugh, sophomore Arianna Pearson, and DuVall.

The Lady Knights' 800 relay squad also finished in first place, posting a winning time of 1:49.4 in the process. That contingent consisted of junior Nikayla Russ, Banks, freshman Lizzie Imrie, and Katrina Eterovich.

On May 8, Nordonia competed in the Woodridge Night of Stars Meet, but results were not available at press time.

The Suburban League Meet is takeing place at Nordonia High School this week. Results of day one May 9 were not available at press time. Day two will take place May 11, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

"We still have so much that we can improve upon this season," said Barwidi. "Most of the improvement lies within our approach and preparation to events, both mentally and physically. The other two things that we can improve on is our toughness within races and also being able to compete at a high level in multiple events in a meet."
