It was a successful evening for the Tallmadge boys track and field team April 28 at the Buckeye Relays in Medina.

The Blue Devils finished third out of seven teams with 93 points. Buckeye won the competition with 120 points and North Ridgeville was runner-up with 109 points.

"I was happy with our performance," Tallmadge head coach Mike Srodawa said.

The Blue Devils also suffered a 75-44 defeat to Suburban League American Conference rival Aurora May 2 on the road. Tallmadge finished 1-5 overall and 1-5 in the American Conference.

At the Buckeye Relays, the Blue Devils' 3,200-meter relay team of sophomore Zach Brown, junior twins Vince Labosky and John Labosky and junior Ryan Riter won with a time of 8 minutes, 42.79 seconds.

Juniors Matt Kieke (second, 117 feet, 2 inches) and Blake Bockus (fifth, 108-11) and senior Logan George (106-5) combined to win the discus relay with a total distance of 332 feet, 6 inches.

"Matt has been very consistent this season," Srodawa said.

Sophomore Lucca Passarelli won the individual 300 hurdles with a time of 42.33.

The high-jump relay team of Passarelli (6-2), Mitch Pflugh (5-2) and senior Vinnie Sgro (5 feet) finished second with a total distance of 16-4.

Sophomore Garrett Ansley (11 feet), Mitchell Herman and Eddie Ahuoajee finished second in the pole-vault relay with an overall distance of 19-.25.

"Garrett has been pretty solid in that event," Srodawa said. "He's a really good athlete overall."

Riter placed second in the individual 3,200 with a time of 10:08.97. Brown was third (10:40.73).

Bockus (first, 50-6.5), Kieke (third, 44-3) and Michael Cornell (38-9.5) combined to finish third in the shot-put relay with a total distance of 133-7.

"This was the first time Blake has thrown the shot put more than 50 feet," Srodawa said. "In fact, we haven't had a person go over 50 feet since I've been coaching."

John Labosky, Vince Labosky, senior Dan Hepler and Dan Rader combined to finish third in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:27.65.

Vince Labosky, John Labosky, Hepler and Alex Vaughan combined to place third in the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:45.92.

Placing third in the 110 shuttle hurdles relay with a time of 1:13.16 was the team of Passarelli, Ahuoajee, senior Jacob Brieding and sophomore Ryan Kaufman.

Passarelli (17-3.5), Brieding and Jake Davis combined to place fourth in the long-jump relay with a total distance of 47-7.

Vince Labosky finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:18.58.

Rader, Vaughan, seniors Hunter Sally and Rodney Tucker teamed to place fifth in the 800 sprint medley relay with a time of 1:46.23.

Tallmadge simply didn't have the firepower to match the Greenmen.

"Aurora has some depth," Srodawa said.

Passarelli won the high jump with a leap of 5-4. Sgro was second (5-2).

Brown won the 3,200 with a time of 10:43.2. Sophomore Alex Krukemeyer placed third (11:22.3).

"Zach ran well," Srodawa said. "He's been running well all season. He's right where we want him to be."

Bockus won the shot put with a throw of 48 feet. Kieke was second (46-11).

Riter won the 1,600, clocking in at 4:47.
