Four in marathon;

distance runs set

Four Aurorans ran in the recent Boston Marathon, with 48-year-old Stephen Godale leading the quartet with a finish in 2:55:24. Mark Godale, 46, turned in a time of 3:19:26, Rick Clary, 48, came in at 3:31:21 and David Dematteis, 49, finished in 3:45:22.

More distance runs are coming up in Northeast Ohio this weekend.

On April 29 are the Derby Dash in Fairview Park, Spring Into Fitness 5K at Tri-C Eastern Campus in Highland Hills and Renee Roche Memorial Jog Into Spring at the Independence Civic Center.

On April 30 are the Race for Brunswick Blue Pride at Brunswick High, Hillcrest Hospital's Cancer Center 5K at the Parkview Pool Center in Mayfield Village and Love-A-Stray Fur Fun 5K at Avon Lake High.

Coaches are given

pacts for 2017-18

The Aurora Board of Education has approved awarding supplemental contracts to eight head coaches of varsity sports for the 2017-18 school year.

Robert Wilson will be the new girls soccer head coach. Returning as heads are Bob Mihalik, football; Jason Bibza, boys soccer; Laura Bell-Peters, cross country; David Munson, boys golf; Noah Goodman, girls golf; Tyler Price, volleyball; and Dania Banc, girls tennis.

Assistant coaches awarded supplemental contracts are:

Football -- John Calcei, Nick Kukarola, Victor Ricketts, Brian Wervey, Jay Price, David Keckan, Mark Dingman, Kenneth Cardman, Mike Romito and Robert Palma.

Marty Verel, girls soccer; Heather Berlin, Micky Colangelo, Sharon Durdel and Thomas Susanek, volleyball; Elizabeth Bibza and Tracy England, cross country; Elizabeth D'Amato, boys golf; and Tim Baczkowski, girls golf.

John Kudley was given a supplemental contract as ticket manager, while Connie Wells was given one as cheerleader adviser.

Golf tourneys set

in Portage County

The annual Record-Courier Portage County Amateur golf tournament dates have been scheduled for this summer.

The 87th annual Portage County Amateur will be JUly 29-30 at Windmill Lakes in Ravenna and Sugar Bush in Garrettsville, while the third annual Kids Amateur will be July 23 at Sunny Hill.

The 10th annual Matt Mishler Junior Amateur will be July 24-25 at Windmill Lakes and Sunny, while the 47th annual Portage County Senior Amateur will be Aug. 26-27 at Windmill Lakes and Sugar Bush.

Registration forms are available at the Record-Courier offices in Kent, at the host golf courses and online at Golf in the Record-Courier Amateurs Facebook page, as well as on NEOHgolf.com.

Forms can be completed and dropped off at host golf courses, at the offices of the Record-Courier in Kent or mailed to the latter at 1050 W. Main St.

Camp finishes 6th

Club Walden golf pro Mitch Camp teamed up with Ned Weaver to tie for sixth place in the Northern Ohio PGA's 36-hole Pro-Pro Premier tournament at Firestone Country Club's North course. They shot 65-73-138 to pocket $333. Barrington Golf Club in Aurora will host the stroke play series 6 tourney on Aug. 14.

KSU results noted

Kent State University's baseball team headed into this week's action with a 24-12 overall record and 10-2 mark in the Mid-American Conference. Over the weekend, the squad beat Toledo 1-0, 3-2 and 10-1.

Meanwhile, KSU's softball team went 2-1 over the weekend against Akron and stood 19-24 overall and 9-9 in the MAC heading into this week's action.

The Flashes split a doubleheader April 22, losing the first 8-4 and winning the second 12-1, and also won 7-3 on April 21.

The men will host Central Michigan on April 28-30, while the women will play at Buffalo on April 28-29.
