For what seems like an eternity, the Hudson boys track and field team has scored a number of wins thanks to its dominance in the distance races.

On April 18, the Explorers showed they can be a force in some of the sprinting events, too.

Hudson earned its third consecutive victory after posting a 78-59 win over Stow-Munroe Falls at Hudson Memorial Stadium.

With the victory, Hudson improved to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the Suburban League National Conference.

The Explorers captured first in eight events, including the 100-meter dash, 400 and the 800 and 1,600 relays.

"I was very pleased with our team performance at the meet," Hudson head coach Mark McConnell said. "Stow is our biggest rival and I was very impressed with the way our team managed their preparation for the meet and their performance against a good team."

Maxwell Doyle won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.6 seconds. He also joined Nivash Jayaram, Jack Sarkisian and Zack Rickey on the winning 800 relay (1:36.9).

Jayaram and Sarkisian joined Luke Good and Dawson Wervey on the first-place 1,600 relay (3:48.5). Wervey added a win in the 400 (52.6).

"I have been very pleased with our sprinting crew over the past couple of duel meets," McConnell said. "As a group, they are very young. They have done a great job of scoring points in events against senior-heavy teams and have represented Hudson well as key contributors to our 3-1 record in dual meets."

The Explorers were their usual stellar selves in the distance races, too.

Blake Roberts won the 1,600 in 4:32 and joined Jack Good, Eric Halford and Jacob Russo on the winning 3,200 relay team (8:56).

Adam Beucler took first in the 3,200 in 9:37 and Kenny McGaughey won the 800 in 2:10.

Hudson was scheduled to host National Conference rival Twinsburg April 21. Results were not available at press time.

The Explorers are set to visit National Conference foe Wadsworth April 25 at 4 p.m.

"Wadsworth will be our toughest challenge of the year," McConnell said. "They are the defending league champions.

"Our usual strength of distance can be matched by Wadsworth, so we will look to get points from other parts of our team to help improve our team's chances of winning."
